About the hike

Our hike stats from the magnificent Gergeti Trinity Church at the foot of Mt. Kazbek at an altitude of 2,170m, from where a rather steep ascent along the ridge with incredible views of Kazbek awaits us.

After Saberdze pass (alt. 2950 m) the trail will smoothly lead us to Altihut — a mountain shelter at the alt. of 3014 m above sea level, where one of the base camps of mountaineers who are going to conquer Kazbek is situated.

We will ascend a little further and the mountain path will lead us directly to the Gergeti waterfall and glacier tongue — Kazbek will be so close that it seems that you can touch it!

After an amazing lunch at the mountain hut we will get back to Gergeti Church, where our transfer to Stepantsminda awaits. 

Important info

It’s always best to get out early, but on this hike it’s especially important.

Mt. Kazbek attracts clouds, which starting to form around 10-11am. So if you want to see the Mr Majestic in all it’s beauty — we need to start early! 

Generally, be aware that the weather is extremely changeable and capricious: even in summer on sunny days, thick, dense clouds can form in a short period of time.
