There is a legend that the ancient 7th century temple is named after Lomisa- the bull, who in ancient times led 7 thousand captive highlanders out of Persia and climbed a mountain range of 2200 meters high. Having done his duty, the bull died right there on the summit. An icon of St. George was tied to his horns, which fell from the bull's horns, but did not fall to the ground, and stood upright - this is where the Lomisi Monastery was founded.

The monastery, by the way, is clearly visible from Gudauri (it is located directly opposite, on the other side of the Aragvi Gorge, right on top of the mountain range), every year it holds a pagan holiday with sacrifices - Lomisoba, and it is visited by an incredible number of believers (children, adults, grandmas, all go up the mountain path).
